Formula One Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi

With motor sport being an integral part of the sporting culture of the Middle East, Abu Dhabi was a privileged host of the F1 Grand Prix, the climax of the World Championship 2009.
The circuit for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is located on Yas Island, just off the coast of Abu Dhabi and a short drive from the city’s international airport. The Yas Marina F1 Circuit which spans over more than 2000 hectares of land is designed by the famous circuit designer, Hermann Tilke.
The unique Yas Marina Circuit is the only circuit in the world where a 499 bedroom, 5-star hotel actually spans the track besides offering covered grandstand seats. And for the first time in the sport’s history the finale of Abu Dhabi F1 Grand Prix was held as a day-night race demonstrating the circuit's inbuilt flexibility and state-of-the-art facilities.
The new experience provided spectators and television viewers a stunning view of the world’s newest F1 circuit architecture during daylight while at sunset the circuit displayed a breathtaking backdrop of colourfully lit buildings and a spectacular marina.
Along with the Abu Dhabi Formula 1 track, a state-of-the-art Ferrari theme park located in the same island has become a raging sport attraction not only in the country but around the world.
Etihad, the national airline of United Arab Emirates is the sponsor of the Formula 1 Grand Prix for three years starting from 2009.
